Characters

  • Sentinels

Sentinels are Chrono Odyssey's guardians of worlds against the Void, and the player is one of them. The official channel introduced four in June 2025: Leviona of the fallen planet Izar, Betelgeuse of Magellan, the tactician Ilon and Petra.

Development and Release

  • Chrono Studio

Chrono Studio is the South Korean studio that develops Chrono Odyssey, led by CEO Bae Bong-gun (also co-CEO of Npixel) with executive producer Yun Sang-tae. Kakao Games publishes the game in Korea and worldwide except China and Russia, under a deal announced on Mar 20, 2024; Kakao Games is the publisher, not the developer.

  • Developer Notes

Since the June 2025 closed beta, Chrono Studio has published six developer notes on Steam (#2 in two parts, then #3 to #6) and a community wrap-up describing how it is reworking Chrono Odyssey; the latest, Developer's Notes #6 of Sep 22, 2026, covers PC optimization with the Korean hardware community Quasar Zone. No second test is dated, as of Oct 21, 2026.

  • Development History

Chrono Odyssey is made by Chrono Studio in South Korea and published by Kakao Games. Npixel revealed it on Dec 4, 2020 (it began as Project S, in development since 2019 by Npixel's account), it went to Kakao Games at GDC 2024, held one closed beta in June 2025, and has slipped from Q4 2025 to a Q2 2027 window; there is no release date as of Oct 21, 2026.

  • Trailers

The newest Chrono Odyssey trailer is the Summer Game Fest Trailer of Jun 6, 2025, and the longest look at play is the 18-minute Gameplay Walkthrough of Jun 12, 2025. Earlier trailers came in Dec 2020 (the reveal), May 2023 (the gameplay trailer) and Mar 2024 (GDC 2024); there has been no new trailer in 2026, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Class Guides

  • Berserker

The Berserker is Chrono Odyssey's rage-powered melee class, "Relentless warriors, embodying unbridled fury on the battlefield", playable in the June 2025 closed beta with axes and chain blades and an ultimate that enters a full-rage state.

  • Classes

Chrono Odyssey has six announced classes, Swordsman, Ranger, Berserker, Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin; only the Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker were playable in the June 2025 closed beta. Each class has three class-locked weapons and carries two, swapping between them in combat.

  • Ranger

The Ranger is Chrono Odyssey's ranged class, "Adept marksmen ... well-prepared for close encounters", playable in the June 2025 closed beta with a longbow, a rapier and dual hand crossbows, juggling stamina, vigor and arrows.

  • Swordsman

The Swordsman is Chrono Odyssey's all-round melee class, "Versatile warriors, peerless in both offense and defense", playable in the June 2025 closed beta with a sword and shield, a greatsword and dual blades, building rage with basic attacks.

Gameplay Guides

  • Bosses

Chrono Odyssey has field bosses and world bosses in the open world, Region Bosses for several parties, and one-on-one Chrono Gate bosses; the bosses Chrono Studio itself has named are the Thousandfold Piercer, the Optio Brute and the Ravenous Bog. No full boss list has been published, as of Oct 21, 2026.

  • Character Creation

Chrono Odyssey's character creator offers "gender, body types, facial features, hairstyles, makeup, scars, and much more" for one playable species, humans, and no class is gender-locked. After players built deliberately grotesque characters in the June 2025 beta, Chrono Studio promised "meaningful limitations" for the next test.

  • Chrono Gates

Chrono Gates are Chrono Odyssey's one-on-one boss fights against Void Apostles. The first, the Thousandfold Piercer, came at about level 3 in the June 2025 closed beta and is moving to about level 5, where players can bring an optional NPC Supporter (Chrono Studio, Jul 30, 2025 and May 7, 2026).

  • Chronotector

The Chronotector is Chrono Odyssey's time device, "an artifact which allows players to stop time around monsters or rewind a character's time." It also reveals traces of the past, solves puzzles, opens hidden rewards and summons defeated bosses as specters; in the June 2025 closed beta it had five abilities.

  • Combat

Chrono Odyssey uses action combat, not tab targeting: you aim your own attacks, dodge, block and parry on a stamina bar, lock on to targets, swap between two weapons mid-fight and use the time-bending Chronotector. Kakao Games says it "draws inspiration from the fluid action found in soulslike games," and the developers have reworked it since the June 2025 closed beta.

  • Crafting and Gathering

Chrono Odyssey's life skills are harvesting, logging, mining and skinning, plus fishing, processing, cooking and the crafting of equipment and consumables, and they give experience, so a character can reach max level without fighting. Gear can come from crafting or drops, with neither meant to win, and players trade through an auction house, not hand to hand.

  • Dungeons and Raids

Chrono Odyssey splits its instanced content into solo Chrono Gates, Labyrinths and Trials and party Expeditions and Time Portals; for the endgame, executive producer Yun Sang-tae has described 10-player raids and five-player dungeons (Jun 9, 2025). None has a release date, as of Oct 21, 2026.

  • Exploration and Traversal

Chrono Odyssey is a seamless open world with no loading screens, built for "unrestricted exploration of any terrain": you climb, ride mounts, slow your fall and glide with the Chronotector, and step into Setera's past through Time Portals. Its map has a compass instead of a minimap, and the launch world is to be about four times the size of the June 2025 beta's.

  • Gear and Enhancement

In Chrono Odyssey you get gear from drops or crafting "with no method having a distinct advantage," and enhancing it never breaks or downgrades an item. Endgame gearing is planned to be horizontal, monsters drop Monster Equipment in their own likeness, a wardrobe will let you keep any look, and the shop is to sell cosmetics only.

  • Matrix System

The Matrix is Chrono Odyssey's skill tree, "a node-based progression system that moves away from linear paths," with four progression paths for each weapon (twelve per class) that change a weapon's main skills and combat patterns. It was announced after the June 2025 closed beta and has not been playable yet.

  • Performance and Optimization

Chrono Odyssey's June 2025 closed beta ran poorly for many players, with frame drops, stutter and crashes "even on higher-end PCs". Chrono Studio has since cut shader calls per frame by about 40% and average memory use by about 20% (Dec 2025) and, in Sep 2026, began benchmarking the game with Quasar Zone to fix its PC performance and specs.

  • PvP

Chrono Odyssey is PvE first: PvP can be switched off outside PvP zones and events, the June 2025 closed beta had only one-on-one duels, and open PvP zones and a PvEvP mode called Eden are planned (Kakao Games and Yun Sang-tae, June 2025).

  • Weapons

In Chrono Odyssey each class has three class-locked weapons and carries two, swapping between them in combat for passive buffs, with skill cooldowns kept per weapon; six classes make 18 weapons, nine of them played in the June 2025 closed beta.

Launch Guides

  • Closed Beta

Chrono Odyssey's only public test so far was a closed beta on Steam from Jun 20 to Jun 22, 2025 (72 hours, a Steam Playtest joined with "Request Access"). No second beta has been dated as of Oct 21, 2026.

  • PC System Requirements

Chrono Odyssey's minimum PC on Steam is 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-3570K or AMD FX-8310, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or Radeon RX 6600, DirectX 11 and 50 GB of space; the recommended PC has a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT. These are the June 2025 closed beta's figures, and Chrono Studio is re-setting them with Quasar Zone's benchmarks (Sep 2026).

  • Platforms

Chrono Odyssey is announced for PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a simultaneous worldwide launch on all of them as the goal. Cross-play has not been announced as of Oct 21, 2026, and there is no PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Mac or mobile version.

  • Price and Business Model

Chrono Odyssey is buy-to-play (Kakao Games, Mar 2024), and no price has been announced as of Oct 21, 2026. Its developers say the shop will sell only cosmetics and a battle pass, with nothing pay-to-win.

  • Release Date

Chrono Odyssey has no release date as of Oct 21, 2026. Kakao Games' release schedule from its Aug 2026 earnings call lists it for Q2 2027 (April to June 2027), after delays from Q4 2025, Q4 2026 and Q1 2027; Steam says "To be announced".

Overview

  • Chrono Odyssey

Chrono Odyssey is an open-world action MMORPG from Chrono Studio, published by Kakao Games for PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, in which Sentinels fight the Void across the time-fractured world of Setera with the Chronotector. It has no release date as of Oct 21, 2026; Kakao Games' Aug 2026 earnings schedule lists it for Q2 2027, and it will be buy-to-play with a cosmetic shop.

Reception

  • Reception

Chrono Odyssey has no reviews because it is unreleased. Its only public test, the June 2025 closed beta, drew more than 65,000 concurrent players on Steam (SteamDB, as reported by MassivelyOP) and mixed impressions: praise for the world, the Chronotector and the character creator, and criticism of performance, animation and enemy AI, with many comparisons to New World.

Story

  • Story

In Chrono Odyssey the player is a Sentinel defending the world of Setera from the Void, a cosmic force that has already consumed other worlds; in the June 2025 closed beta the story opened in a doomed future and sent the player back in time. The developers have since put the story through "a complete overhaul", and the new version has not been shown, as of Oct 21, 2026.

World

  • Setera

Setera is the world of Chrono Odyssey, "a land marred by cosmic horror, twisted by time", where past and future collide and gods, humans and the invading Void meet. The June 2025 closed beta opened one region of it; the size of the launch map and its regions are not final, as of Oct 21, 2026.
