Classes

Chrono Odyssey has six announced classes, Swordsman, Ranger, Berserker, Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin; only the Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker were playable in the June 2025 closed beta. Each class has three class-locked weapons and carries two, swapping between them in combat.

Chrono Odyssey has six announced classes: the Swordsman, Ranger, Berserker, Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin. Only three of them, the Swordsman, the Ranger and the Berserker, were playable in the closed beta of Jun 20 to 22, 2025. The beta's class select showed all six around a table: SpookyFairy's capture of the first minutes reads the names out (Sorcerer, Assassin, Berserker, Paladin, Ranger, Swordsman), tries the Sorcerer first, and settles on the Berserker. Each class has three weapons, equips two and swaps between them in combat (see Weapons). Chrono Studio has not dated a second test or the launch as of Oct 21, 2026, and the classes are being reworked around the Matrix System.

The six classes

Chrono Studio's own one-line descriptions exist for four classes: three from the official channel's class videos of June 2025, released before the beta, and one for the Sorcerer from the official X account in November 2024. The weapons of the three classes nobody has played come only from Icy Veins' reading of footage and item data, in its class guide of Mar 31, 2026; Chrono Studio has not named them.

Swordsman "Versatile warriors, peerless in both offense and defense to control the flow of battle." Sword and shield, greatsword, dual blades (MassivelyOP). Playable in the beta.
Ranger "Adept marksmen, exceling in neutralizing enemies from a distance while remaining well-prepared for close encounters." Longbow, rapier, dual hand crossbows (MassivelyOP). Playable in the beta.
Berserker "Relentless warriors, embodying unbridled fury on the battlefield." Chain blades, twin axes, battle axe, as Icy Veins names them. Playable in the beta.
Paladin "Hard-hitting" in official 2023 clips (MassivelyOP). Lance, halberd and mace as Icy Veins reads them from footage. Not yet playable.
Sorcerer "Their immense knowledge of magical powers is a grave concern for anyone who faces them." Staff, manasphere and grimoire as Icy Veins reads them. Not yet playable.
Assassin "Nimble" in official 2023 clips (MassivelyOP). Saber, wrist blades and musket as Icy Veins reads them. Not yet playable.

Roles: tank, healer and DPS

Chrono Odyssey has tank, healer and damage roles, but it does not lock a class into one. In the official Developer Interview #1 (May 23, 2025) the team says it first planned to separate roles clearly, then "realized the need for hybrid classes", which is how the Assassin and the Ranger came about; it added a variety of weapons to move past fixed roles, and made sure that "healers and tanks wouldn't struggle when playing solo." In an interview with Inven in June 2025 the developers went further: classes for tank, damage and healer exist, but weapon swaps and per-weapon customization mean a party dungeon can be cleared even by three tanks or three healers.

Executive producer Yun Sang-tae said the same to the creator Kanon (Jun 9, 2025): rather than dividing roles strictly into tank, DPS and healer, Chrono Odyssey puts its focus on a wider variety of builds, "but that doesn't mean roles like Tank and DPS, or Tank and Healer don't exist"; they are designed to work in group play. The endgame he described for them is 10-player raids and 5-player party dungeons.

There is no dedicated healer among the three classes played so far. Asked in February 2026 whether a support class would be added, the executive producer answered that support would not be restricted to specific classes: the Matrix System lets "various weapons to provide different types of support utility" (Icy Veins, Feb 12, 2026). The one healing weapon anyone has pointed to is the Sorcerer's grimoire, and only as Icy Veins reads its item data; for tanking, the Swordsman's sword and shield was the tanky option in the beta.

The Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin

The three unplayed classes have been seen only in official footage. They were named with the other three when the May 2023 Official Gameplay Trailer came out, whose forest battle shows a party cutting into a beast with blades while a caster hurls purple energy and a pillar of light strikes the ground; Chrono Studio has not said which classes appear in it. Official clips on X in mid 2023 showed "the nimble Assassin, the hard-hitting Paladin, and the long-ranged Sorcerer", and one teaser had a Paladin fighting a world boss (MassivelyOP, Jun 15, 2023). In the beta their portraits stood at the class select but could not be chosen.

Everything more specific about these three, their weapons, skills and roles, comes from press reading footage, not from Chrono Studio. Icy Veins' guide (Mar 31, 2026) describes the Paladin as a tank and support hybrid, the Sorcerer as the magic damage class with a healing grimoire, and the Assassin as a mobile melee class with a musket for range; treat that as a reading of a test build, not as the game's design.

Weapons and the Matrix

Every class has three weapons of its own and carries two, swapping between them mid-fight for a passive buff; skill cooldowns are kept per weapon (Wccftech, May 23, 2025). Weapons are locked to their class, while monster armor sets can be worn by every class. The full list is on Weapons.

After the beta, Chrono Studio replaced the beta's per-weapon skill trees with the Matrix System, a node-based progression with four paths per weapon, twelve in all per class, in which "primary skills and combat patterns change depending on the progression path" (Developer's Notes #5, May 7, 2026). One character cannot unlock every node, and node resets cost in-game currency, so two players of the same class can play quite differently.

What the beta showed and what changed

Chrono Studio's own summary of the beta, Developer's Notes #2 Part 2 (Jul 30, 2025), admitted three class problems: "All classes currently share similar roles (tank/healer/DPS), lacking distinct identity", "Ranged classes are easier to play compared to melee classes", and there were "significant balance discrepancies between the three weapons available for each class" (Steam). Its answer: monster AI that reacts better to ranged attacks, the Matrix to give each weapon a role, and a re-evaluation of every class's balance once the Matrix is in.

The developer said in May 2026 that it wants no single "correct" build and will rebalance builds that dominate on a seasonal basis (Icy Veins, May 22, 2026). None of this has been played yet: no test has been held since the beta, as of Oct 21, 2026.

More classes after launch

More classes are promised. The closing words of Developer Interview #1 say the story "will continue to unfold after launch, with new regions, classes, and a wide range of content." No seventh class has been named, and the six announced in 2023 are still the six Chrono Studio lists, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How many classes are in Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey has six announced classes: Swordsman, Ranger, Berserker, Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin. Only the Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker were playable in the June 2025 closed beta, and more classes are promised after launch.

What is the best class in Chrono Odyssey? There is no reliable ranking of Chrono Odyssey's classes: only three were ever playable, for 72 hours in June 2025, and Chrono Studio has since rebuilt class progression around the Matrix System. The developer also admitted that ranged classes were easier than melee ones in that beta, a balance it says it is fixing.

Is there a healer in Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey has healing and tank roles, but none of the three classes played so far is a dedicated healer. The developer says support comes from weapons and Matrix paths rather than one support class; Icy Veins reads the Sorcerer's grimoire as a healing weapon, which Chrono Studio has not confirmed.

Is there a tank class in Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey has no class that must tank, but the Swordsman's sword and shield was the tanky choice in the June 2025 closed beta. The developers say even three tanks or three healers can clear a party dungeon.

Are classes gender-locked in Chrono Odyssey? No. Every Chrono Odyssey class can be played as any character you create in the character creator.

Can I play Paladin, Sorcerer or Assassin in Chrono Odyssey? Not yet: the Paladin, Sorcerer and Assassin were shown at the closed beta's class select but could not be picked. Chrono Studio has not said when they will be playable, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Will Chrono Odyssey add more classes? Yes, Chrono Studio says new classes and regions will come after launch, but none has been named as of Oct 21, 2026.
