PvP
Chrono Odyssey is PvE first: PvP can be switched off outside PvP zones and events, the June 2025 closed beta had only one-on-one duels, and open PvP zones and a PvEvP mode called Eden are planned (Kakao Games and Yun Sang-tae, June 2025).
Chrono Odyssey is a PvE-first game: you can switch PvP off outside designated PvP zones and events, the June 2025 closed beta had only one-on-one duels, and open PvP zones plus a PvEvP mode called Eden are planned. Asked by the streamer Kanon (Jun 9, 2025) whether the game leans PvE or PvP, executive producer Yun Sang-tae said that in the studio's figures players who prefer PvP were "only around 5% to 10%", so "we decided to design our content with more of a PvE focus", while making sure PvE players "wouldn't experience fatigue or frustration". The game is unreleased and has no release date, as of Oct 21, 2026, so PvP's final form is not known.

PvE first, PvP by choice
Chrono Odyssey sets itself apart from Korean MMORPGs that end in PvP. Yun told Kanon that "in traditional Korean MMORPGs, endgame content is often heavily focused on PvP", and "we've designed our game to have more of a PvE-focused structure instead". Kakao Games said the same in its interview with MassivelyOP: PvP can be "disabled outside designated PvP zones and events" (Jun 4, 2025).
Only players who want PvP should meet it. Kanon, who had played a test before the closed beta, described its PvP as "an opt-in system that allowed players to kill anyone else that was flagged for PVP in the open world", fun but unbalanced. Yun answered that PvP "will be structured so players can optionally choose to participate", that "the PvP experience doesn't become unpleasant", and that it is "content prepared specifically so that only players who wish to participate in PvP will do so".
Duels in the closed beta
In the June 2025 closed beta, the only PvP was one-on-one duels in the field; free-conflict zones and objective battlegrounds were still in development (Inven, Jun 2025). Testers found the duel area hard to see, so Chrono Studio promised a visual barrier, a warning near the edge and a result pop-up (Jul 30, 2025). Developer's Notes #4 of Jan 29, 2026 reports that "duels have been improved through the addition of a visible boundary and more intuitive victory/defeat signage" (Chrono Studio, Jan 29, 2026).
The Chronotector, the time device, was usable in PvP in the beta on purpose, to gather data, and some of its uses are to be limited in PvP for fairness (Inven, Jun 2025). The Matrix progression has no PvP-only nodes (Icy Veins, May 22, 2026); see Matrix System.
PvP zones
Some regions will be open PvP ground. The official "Gameplay Walkthrough" (Jun 12, 2025) says that "certain regions are particularly susceptible to conflict, giving rise to dangerous PvP zones", where "you're free to engage other players as you choose", and that "safe zones still exist, but take heed once you cross the line"; the footage shows a fight among ruined stone stairs under a "PvP" banner. Chrono Studio's post for the video warned that it "showcases content that may not be included in the Closed Beta, including unreleased features planned for the full release" (Steam, Jun 12, 2025), and PvP zones were not in the beta.
Yun calls them "Freely Contested Zones". He told Kanon that "for end-game content, we've prepared 'Freely Contested Zones' for PvP", where "conflicts can occur even without explicitly toggling PvP on or off", and that they are "selectively designed specifically for users who enjoy PvP, so only those who want to participate will go there". MassivelyOP summed it up as openly contested zones with automatic flagging (Jun 12, 2025).
Eden, the PvEvP mode
Eden is a dungeon mode where other players are a danger too. The Walkthrough's "one last tip" introduces it: "Eden exists beyond all timelines", you "descend into an abyss of endless dungeons" with "powerful bosses forgotten by the rivers of time", alone or with allies, and its rewards are so rare that "even trusted comrades may turn foe". Time in Eden is limited, loot goes into "a cube" that has a cap, and "if you fail to escape, everything you've claimed will turn to dust". The footage shows a party in dark ruins, a loot screen, and a portal of blue light.
Eden is meant to matter for everyone, not only PvP players. Yun told Kanon that the PvEvP content "isn't designed as optional content that you can simply choose to do or not; instead, it's structured to be closely tied to character progression", and that "there are items that can only be upgraded through the 'Eden' content", usable afterward in the open world. Eden was not in the June 2025 beta, and no developer note since has mentioned it, as of Oct 21, 2026; its final form is one of the open questions about the game.
Arenas, battlegrounds and large-scale war
Chrono Odyssey is not built around sieges or arenas. In "Developer Interview #1" (May 23, 2025), the developers say: "Rather than sticking to conventional MMORPG content like large-scale siege battles or arena-style PvP, we aimed to deliver a unique experience through a distinct PvEvP system", and "Chrono Odyssey is built for smaller scale play".
Arenas are possible later, not promised. Asked about battlegrounds or an arena, Yun said that since the game "is already structured to support PvP, it's easy for us to create modes like 3v3 or 5v5 PvP", and that the team would decide "depending on feedback from this CBT". No arena or battleground has been announced, as of Oct 21, 2026.
The game once promised the opposite. Npixel's reveal of Dec 4, 2020 listed "large-scale RVR contents" among its features. On Nov 6, 2024, Kakao Games' then-CEO Han Sang-woo said large faction wars and PvP were being cut back to aim at the Western market (Dailian). Guilds work "mostly as a social feature" for now, Yun told Kanon, so no guild wars have been announced either.

Chrono OdysseyChrono Odyssey is an open-world action MMORPG from Chrono Studio, published by Kakao Games for PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, in which Sentinels fight the Void across the time-fractured world of Setera with the Chronotector. It has no release date as of Oct 21, 2026; Kakao Games' Aug 2026 earnings schedule lists it for Q2 2027, and it will be buy-to-play with a cosmetic shop. -
ChronotectorThe Chronotector is Chrono Odyssey's time device, "an artifact which allows players to stop time around monsters or rewind a character's time." It also reveals traces of the past, solves puzzles, opens hidden rewards and summons defeated bosses as specters; in the June 2025 closed beta it had five abilities.
-
Matrix SystemThe Matrix is Chrono Odyssey's skill tree, "a node-based progression system that moves away from linear paths," with four progression paths for each weapon (twelve per class) that change a weapon's main skills and combat patterns. It was announced after the June 2025 closed beta and has not been playable yet.
-
BossesChrono Odyssey has field bosses and world bosses in the open world, Region Bosses for several parties, and one-on-one Chrono Gate bosses; the bosses Chrono Studio itself has named are the Thousandfold Piercer, the Optio Brute and the Ravenous Bog. No full boss list has been published, as of Oct 21, 2026. -
Character CreationChrono Odyssey's character creator offers "gender, body types, facial features, hairstyles, makeup, scars, and much more" for one playable species, humans, and no class is gender-locked. After players built deliberately grotesque characters in the June 2025 beta, Chrono Studio promised "meaningful limitations" for the next test.

Chrono GatesChrono Gates are Chrono Odyssey's one-on-one boss fights against Void Apostles. The first, the Thousandfold Piercer, came at about level 3 in the June 2025 closed beta and is moving to about level 5, where players can bring an optional NPC Supporter (Chrono Studio, Jul 30, 2025 and May 7, 2026).
