Developer Notes

Since the June 2025 closed beta, Chrono Studio has published six developer notes on Steam (#2 in two parts, then #3 to #6) and a community wrap-up describing how it is reworking Chrono Odyssey; the latest, Developer's Notes #6 of Sep 22, 2026, covers PC optimization with the Korean hardware community Quasar Zone. No second test is dated, as of Oct 21, 2026.

The latest Chrono Odyssey update is Developer's Notes #6, posted on Steam on Sep 22, 2026, which covers PC optimization and a partnership with the Korean hardware community Quasar Zone (Steam). It is the latest in a numbered series that began before the June 2025 closed beta and since then has described a rework of the game: combat, controls, progression, the world, the interface, the story and performance. Before the beta, executive producer Yun Sang-tae said the test was not meant to "present a perfectly polished version, but to gather feedback from players and continue to improve the game"; the notes are where that feedback went. None of them gives a release date or a date for a second test, as of Oct 21, 2026. Every change below was announced as work in progress and "subject to change"; nothing since the beta has been playable. The test itself is on Closed Beta.

Developer's Notes #1 (Apr 4, 2025)

The first note reported on a private Focus Group Test held in February 2025. Bounty Hunting "came out as the most popular" content, Ravenous Bog was one of the most hunted bounties, and Soroma Stronghold "stood out as one of the most popular areas in the game" (Steam). The closed beta was announced six weeks later, on May 19, 2025.

Beta ends and the Community Wrap-Up (Jun 23 and Jul 2, 2025)

When the beta closed on Jun 23, 2025, the developers named their priorities: "movement controls, animations and combat responsiveness", then performance and stability (Steam).

The Community Wrap-Up of Jul 2, 2025 summed up "thousands of pieces of feedback" (Steam). Testers liked the world of Setera, the Chronotector, character customization ("lots of options and creativity") and the "solid core gameplay with strong potential"; in SpookyFairy's capture of the first beta session, the player rolls random faces in the creator and settles on one with "I actually like that". Testers wanted better performance (frame drops, stuttering), combat feedback and animation, clearer quests and map guidance, and a more intuitive interface with better controller support on PC. How the press saw the beta is on Reception.

Developer's Notes #2 Part I (Jul 4, 2025)

The first long note took on combat and performance (Steam). It called inconsistent hit feedback "a major issue", traced it to "packet desyncs between the client and the server", and planned to separate motion and combat packets. It fixed lock-on camera problems, lengthened hit reactions from 1 second to 2 to 4 seconds, and planned rendering, memory and lighting work: Nanite only where needed, instanced meshes, trim sheets, and DLSS and FSR beside Temporal Super Resolution.

Its biggest news was the Matrix, promised for "the next test": four progression paths per weapon, twelve per class, so that "Even if two players are using the same weapon, their primary skills may differ." It answers a complaint the creator Kanon put to Yun Sang-tae before the beta, that the skill tree was "pretty straight forward" without many options; Yun replies that the game is "easy to learn, hard to master" and that players will build "their own builds and metas" as they go deeper. The system is on Matrix System.

Developer's Notes #2 Part 2 (Jul 30, 2025)

The second part covered almost everything else (Steam): input responsiveness, hit and damage feedback, skills that link across weapons, the world's content density, landmarks and scenic views, dungeon gimmicks, a rogue-lite card system for Trials, boss-specific gear from field bosses, a toggle to hide other players' skill effects, sound and music. Its last line was the largest change: "The narrative of Chrono Odyssey is currently undergoing a complete overhaul." See Story.

Controls were split by device. The note said the beta's interface "was not specifically designed with either control scheme in mind" and promised a keyboard-and-mouse layout and a controller layout, each with its own UX, plus presets "inspired by Soulslike and MMORPG control schemes" and custom key mapping. Yun Sang-tae had explained the cause to Kanon a month earlier: the team develops "primarily around controllers", so the interface felt "tailored toward single-player experiences", and he said it was being revised. The note also promised a full interface revamp.

Early difficulty was eased. In the beta, the first Chrono Gate came within the first half hour: SpookyFairy reaches it with "only one ability" and is defeated at once ("Didn't even know what hit me"). The note moved the first Chrono Gate (Thousandfold Piercer) from about level 3 to level 5 with an optional NPC helper, said players "will no longer be instantly defeated by bosses unless they're significantly underleveled", and cut the experience needed after level 10. The bosses are on Chrono Gates.

The quiet months (August to November 2025)

No developer note came between August and December 2025. In September the studio told fans "there is no update because there is no update", and on Nov 11, 2025 the official X account posted short previews of new global lighting and animation work (MassivelyOP). Kakao Games had moved the launch from Q4 2025 to Q4 2026 on Aug 6, 2025 (Gamemeca).

Developer's Notes #3 (Dec 25, 2025)

The holiday note introduced a new lighting system that makes some areas clearer and others darker, "a darker, more atmospheric tone that fits the cosmic horror identity of Chrono Odyssey", with clouds, wind and fog reworked (Steam). It gave the first figures for optimization: shader calls per frame down by about 40% and average memory use down by about 20%. Monster hitboxes were rebuilt so attacks land where they look: the Thousandfold Piercer and the Optio Brute now use multiple hitboxes that follow their animations. The lock-on camera was raised so it no longer tilts up at tall enemies. Performance work is on Performance and Optimization.

Developer's Notes #4 (Jan 29, 2026)

The fourth note was about combat feel (Steam). Movement no longer follows the camera, so players can retreat while watching an enemy; strafe running works while locked on; attacks go where the character faces; sprint starts at once; and the automatic roll after a jump is gone. Hits now visibly shake a character, and the new Guard Crush means "Blocking attacks consumes stamina, and if your stamina drops to 0, a Guard Crush occurs", with side and rear hits breaking a block outright. Several powerful monsters lost total crowd-control immunity. HP potions became a rechargeable system on their own key that refills on death in instanced content, food became a long buff, and special potions were added. Duels gained a visible boundary. The changes are on Combat.

In a Discord Q&A in February 2026, Yun Sang-tae answered questions on the camera, hit impact, consumables and support classes (Icy Veins).

Developer's Notes #5 (May 7, 2026)

The fifth note detailed the Matrix System: "a node-based progression system that moves away from linear paths", where "primary skills and combat patterns change depending on the progression path" (Steam). It added the Supporter System, letting players fight "alongside an NPC Supporter" from the first Chrono Gate on, and Monster Equipment, "equipment that mirrors the appearance and characteristics of the monsters", including world boss gear. Servers gained channels that share character data, "to bolster server stability and manage player density".

The same note improved navigation without adding a minimap. The compass gained height indicators, quest markers appear on the World Map, and map icons show whether a dungeon is undiscovered, discovered or cleared. Yun Sang-tae had told Kanon why the game uses a compass: the team chose not to fill the HUD with system information, so that players feel they are "really exploring the world". Gear is on Gear and Enhancement.

In a second Discord Q&A in May 2026, Yun Sang-tae said there is no single correct build, that one character cannot unlock every Matrix node, and that monster gear works with transmog (MassivelyOP, Icy Veins).

Developer's Notes #6 (Sep 22, 2026)

The newest note opened "It's been a while since we last checked in" and focused on PC performance (Steam). It admitted "cases where the game struggled to run smoothly even on higher-end PCs" in the beta and called stable performance "a key priority". Chrono Studio has partnered with Quasar Zone, an IT and hardware media community, to test the game on many PC configurations; Korean press reported that the work will set the official minimum and recommended specifications and covers entry-level and handheld PCs (Newspim, Inven). The note said work also continues on "character movement and animations, input responsiveness, controls, UI/UX". The current requirements are on PC System Requirements.
