Sentinels

0:40 Sentinels are the guardians who stand against the Void in Chrono Odyssey, and the player is one of them: the Closed Beta Announce Trailer (May 19, 2025) ends on "Sentinel of Setera, I await your return", and the developers greet players as "Sentinels" in their posts. In June 2025 the official channel introduced four other Sentinels by name: Leviona of the fallen planet Izar, Betelgeuse of Magellan, the tactician Ilon, and Petra. They come from worlds the Void has struck, and they are characters you meet, not classes you play. The story they belong to is being rewritten (see Story), so what is known about them is what the developers published before and during the June 2025 closed beta.

The player as a Sentinel

2:13 Your character is a Sentinel of Setera. In Developer Interview #1 (May 23, 2025) executive producer Yun Sang-tae says that "as the protagonist, you'll stand against formidable foes and even traverse past and future to alter the fate of Setera", in an "epic narrative" against "forces far beyond their comprehension". Kakao Games' Summer Game Fest release says players "are called to stand as Sentinels against the encroaching Void" (Jun 6, 2025), and the developers opened the beta with "Setera awaits your coming, Sentinels." (Jun 20, 2025).

12:18 What makes a Sentinel is the Chronotector. The official Gameplay Walkthrough (Jun 12, 2025), whose description casts the player as "a Sentinel, wielder of the mysterious Chronotector", says "those chosen to bear its power are granted access to abilities that defy the limits of reality" and that "only those who wield a Chronotector can command time and space." The device is on Chronotector.

Sentinels from fallen worlds

0:50 The Sentinels come from many worlds, several of them lost. The Summer Game Fest trailer (Jun 6, 2025) speaks for them: "Yet what then of those who dare to turn back the hands of fate? To save what remains of our broken worlds. You need only take my hand. Return to the past where your journey awaits." MassivelyOP described the official character series as a rundown of "the major characters (aka sentinels) of the game's various planets" (Jun 10, 2025). Noisy Pixel's preview says the Void "have already swallowed eleven other realms" (Jun 13, 2025, from the beta build; that number appears in no official text).

The four named Sentinels

The official Chrono Odyssey channel posted one short video for each, from Jun 8 to 11, 2025, titled "The Sentinels". Their descriptions are all the developers have said about them in English:

Leviona studies the enemy. Her world, Izar, is described as "fallen", which makes her one of the Sentinels who survived the loss of a planet; her research into the Void is all her description gives.

Betelgeuse carries the darkest line: the Sentinel of Magellan is "the one responsible for awakening the Void", and his description goes on to his past as Magellan's Emperor. How a Sentinel came to wake the Void, and what that means for the rewritten story, has not been explained, as of Oct 21, 2026.

Ilon is the strategist, "a highly meticulous and intelligent tactician" who "has predicted every move in the war against the Void". Nothing else about Ilon has been published.

14:00 Petra is tied to specters. Her description says she "becomes animated whenever the topics of specters and death arise", and specters are the Chronotector's summons: in the Gameplay Walkthrough, "enemies you defeat don't simply perish. With the power of the Chronotector, you can capture their souls and summon them as Specters in battle." In the closed beta Petra introduced the Summon ability at the Citadel and traded Specter Contracts, according to Icy Veins' Chronotector guide (Feb 10, 2026; beta build).

The Citadel and other beta characters

In the June 2025 closed beta the Sentinels met at the Citadel, which Noisy Pixel called "a cross-realm meeting hall where surviving Sentinels from conquered worlds gather" (Jun 13, 2025). Its reviewer met "stoic veteran Baldur" and "snarky fixer Kaya" there, along with the Sentinels' "no-nonsense leader". Those names come from one preview of the beta build. The leader's name is spelled two ways by the two outlets that wrote it down, and the developers have not published it, so it is left out here.

Town characters with names also appeared in the beta: Icy Veins' beginner guide lists, for example, a vendor of gathering tools and a mount-quest giver in its beta notes (updated Mar 30, 2026). None has been confirmed for launch.

Gaiana and the earlier teasers

Before the Sentinels were introduced, the official account's 2023 teasers showed a saint named Gaiana, alongside graveyards, a rotting marsh, a void dragon and Death, as MassivelyOP summed them up on Jan 4, 2024. Her role has not been explained since.

What is not known

Chrono Studio has not said how many Sentinels there are, which of them will appear at launch, or whether they keep their roles in the rewritten story, as of Oct 21, 2026. The developers wrote after the beta that "the narrative of Chrono Odyssey is currently undergoing a complete overhaul" (Jul 30, 2025). Since May 2026 they have also described Supporters, NPCs who can fight beside you from the first Chrono Gate as an option, "not a permanent, micro-managed companion system" (Icy Veins, May 22, 2026); they have not said whether Sentinels are among them.
