Chrono Odyssey's only public test so far was a closed beta on Steam from Jun 20 to Jun 22, 2025: 72 hours as a Steam Playtest that players joined by clicking "Request Access" on the store page. No second beta has been dated as of Oct 21, 2026. The Summer Game Fest trailer of Jun 6, 2025 ends on the card that announced it, inviting players to join the playtest on Steam from Jun 20 to 22, 2025. The beta held one region, three classes and the early main story, ran on servers in North America, Europe and Asia with no NDA, and peaked at more than 65,000 concurrent players on Jun 21, 2025 (SteamDB, as reported by MassivelyOP). Its feedback led to a rework and a delay of more than a year (Release Date).

When was the Chrono Odyssey closed beta?

The Chrono Odyssey closed beta ran from Friday, Jun 20, 2025, at 00:00 PDT to Sunday, Jun 22, 2025, at 23:59 PDT, which was 16:00 KST on Jun 20 to 16:00 KST on Jun 23. Kakao Games announced it on May 19, 2025, gave the dates on Jun 6, 2025 (the day of the Summer Game Fest trailer), and closed it with a feedback survey on Jun 23, 2025. Before it, Chrono Studio had run only small, private tests: a 14-day Focus Group Test with 65 testers in May 2024, a combat test in summer 2024 that 60% of testers were satisfied with, and a Focus Group Test in February 2025 in which Bounty Hunting was the most popular content.

How the sign-up worked

Chrono Odyssey's beta was announced with this Closed Beta Announce Trailer on May 19, 2025, and players signed up on Steam. The trailer is cinematic, a voice asking "Is this the end?" as the Void consumes everything, ending with "Sentinel of Setera, I await your return." To join, players logged in to Steam, opened the Chrono Odyssey store page and clicked "Request Access"; access was sent by Steam email in waves from Jun 19, 2025 and during the test. The beta ran as a separate Steam app, Chrono Odyssey Playtest (app 3404800), with a download of about 38.8 GB. In Korea, 3,000 codes were also handed out through PC-cafe apps and 7,000 at partner PC cafes.

Demand was larger than Chrono Studio's own target. Asked by the creator Kanon how many players he expected, executive producer Yun Sang-tae said, "We're expecting around one million participants for this closed beta test," a number based on the views the videos had drawn. Kakao Games counted over 400,000 sign-ups by May 19, 2025, said sign-ups had "surpassed 1 million" by Jun 6, 2025, and told investors in August 2025 that close to 2 million had applied, from many regions.

Servers and the launch weekend

Chrono Odyssey's beta servers were in North America, Europe and Asia, with "no restrictions based on your location." Each region opened with six servers, and friends had to pick the same one to play together. Login queues grew on the first day: Kakao Games opened Asia servers 7 to 12, then announced a server expansion for all three regions with new server numbers up to 70. North American servers were unstable on Jun 21, 2025, with maintenance from 12:00 to 13:30 PDT. The peak of more than 65,000 concurrent players came that Saturday.

What was in the beta

Chrono Odyssey's closed beta had three playable classes, the Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker, although its class screen listed all six. SpookyFairy's recording of the first 35 minutes (Jun 20, 2025) opens on that screen: the player clicks through the Sorcerer, Assassin, Berserker, Paladin, Ranger and Swordsman, finds the Sorcerer not yet available, and picks the Berserker. Kakao Games described the build as "one explorable region" and "a curated gameplay slice" with the early main story; Korean press listed field bosses, bounties, Labyrinths, Trials, party dungeons, one-on-one Chrono Gate fights, gathering, fishing and crafting. Voice was in English and Korean, and the interface in English, Korean, Japanese and Traditional and Simplified Chinese. The classes are on Classes, Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker.

The character creator came next, and it was one of the beta's most talked-about parts. The recording shows preset faces and hairstyles, random looks and sliders for the body; testers praised its depth, then shared grotesque creations, and CEO Bae Bong-gun said "It was honestly heartbreaking" and promised "meaningful limitations" in the next test (Character Creation).

In the June 2025 closed beta, the story began in a doomed future and sent the player back in time. After the opening battle against the Void, a figure tells the fallen player that the Void "have claimed countless worlds", that "The Chronotector is capable of turning back time", and "I shall return you to the past." That opening is being replaced: the developers wrote in July 2025 that the narrative is "undergoing a complete overhaul" (Story, Chronotector).

The first Chrono Gate was the beta's hardest early wall. At the end of the recording the player enters a rift, is warned that "These rifts should not exist in this timeline," and meets its boss after only half an hour of play, then loses quickly. Chrono Studio later moved the first Chrono Gate, the Thousandfold Piercer, from about level 3 to level 5 and added an optional NPC helper (Chrono Gates).

There was no NDA: "You are free to stream, record and share gameplay content including screenshots and videos," Kakao Games wrote. All progress was reset when the test ended: "No. All game data will be reset once the test concludes."

How the beta played

Chrono Odyssey's beta ran poorly on many PCs, and its settings had no DLSS or FSR. In the recording, the player opens the graphics settings, turns off motion blur and notes that there is no DLSS. The minimum and recommended specs published for the beta are the ones still on Steam (PC System Requirements). Chrono Studio later admitted "cases where the game struggled to run smoothly even on higher-end PCs," promised DLSS and FSR in July 2025, and in September 2026 began testing the game with the hardware community Quasar Zone (Performance and Optimization).

Players and press were split. Chrono Studio's own wrap-up of Jul 2, 2025 said testers liked Setera, the Chronotector, character creation and the "solid core gameplay with strong potential," and wanted better performance, combat feedback, quest guidance, UI and controller support. MassivelyOP's preview said it "feels like a jankier New World"; TheGamer's Harry Alston found that "combat is otherwise excellent"; MeinMMO compared its exploration to Elden Ring. How it was received is on Reception.

What changed after the beta

Chrono Studio ran the beta to collect feedback, and has rebuilt much of the game around it. In Developer Interview #1 (May 23, 2025) the team said "The upcoming CBT will be the first public test of Chrono Odyssey" and that its goal "isn't to present a perfectly polished version, but to gather feedback from players." Developer's Notes #2 followed in July 2025, blaming sluggish hits on "packet desyncs between the client and the server" and listing fixes for combat, controls, the interface, progression, dungeons and the story; later notes added new lighting, Guard Crush, the Matrix System, NPC Supporters and Monster Equipment. On Aug 6, 2025 Kakao Games moved the launch from Q4 2025 to Q4 2026 to raise the game's completeness. Each note is on Developer Notes.

Is there a second Chrono Odyssey beta?

A second test has been promised but not dated, as of Oct 21, 2026. Kakao Games wrote on the beta's first day that "there will be more testing phases after this Closed Beta, leading up to the official launch," and Yun told Kanon that the launch map would be about four times the size of the beta's. On Jul 7, 2025, Bae said of a second beta, "we currently don't have a confirmed date, and we can't guarantee whether it will happen within this year." In November 2025 Kakao planned a test with core users early in 2026; no report says it took place. In February 2026 Kakao said the game "will repeatedly conduct core testing centered on the Western region." To hear about the next test first, wishlist the game on Steam or join the newsletter on the official site and the official Discord.
