Weapons
In Chrono Odyssey each class has three class-locked weapons and carries two, swapping between them in combat for passive buffs, with skill cooldowns kept per weapon; six classes make 18 weapons, nine of them played in the June 2025 closed beta.
In Chrono Odyssey each class has three weapons of its own and carries two, swapping between them in combat. Swapping grants passive buffs, and skill cooldowns are kept per weapon, so a fighter who uses only one weapon runs out of skills. The official Developer Interview #1 (May 23, 2025) says combat "revolves around a weapon swap system, in lieu of skill chaining", and that the game puts an elite boss early on so that players who use a single weapon "will struggle due to skill cooldowns" and learn to swap. With six classes that makes 18 weapons; the nine of the Swordsman, Ranger and Berserker were played in the closed beta of Jun 20 to 22, 2025, and the rest are known only from footage. See Classes and Combat.

All weapons by class
The closed beta's class select shows each class with its three weapons beside its portrait, as SpookyFairy's capture of the first minutes moves through them. Only three classes could be picked. The playable classes' weapons are named by MassivelyOP and Icy Veins from the beta; the other three classes' weapons are Icy Veins' reading of footage and item data, which Chrono Studio has not confirmed.
| Swordsman | Sword and shield, greatsword, dual blades (MassivelyOP, Jun 12, 2025). Played in the beta. |
| Ranger | Longbow, rapier, dual hand crossbows (MassivelyOP, Jun 12, 2025). Played in the beta. |
| Berserker | Chain blades, twin axes, battle axe, as Icy Veins names them. Played in the beta. |
| Paladin | Lance, halberd, mace (the lance and mace with a shield), read from footage by Icy Veins. Not yet playable. |
| Sorcerer | Staff, manasphere, grimoire (a healing weapon), read from footage and item data by Icy Veins. Not yet playable. |
| Assassin | Saber, wrist blades, musket, read from footage by Icy Veins. Not yet playable. |
Weapons stay locked to their class: Chrono Studio said in May 2026 that monster equipment sets can be worn by every class but that "Weapons, however, remain locked to the specific classes that use them" (Icy Veins, May 22, 2026). Some of that monster gear is weaponry: you might "wield weapons looted from notorious bounty targets" (Developer's Notes #5, May 7, 2026).
Weapon swapping
Swapping is meant to matter all the way through. Developer Interview #1 says "weapon swapping will remain essential, even in endgame", that it "isn't just about switching gear" but "also grants passive buffs", and that because each weapon has a distinct style, "your playstyle can change dramatically depending on which combination you choose." Rather than many skills, each skill was given several functions. The Korean outlet iNews24's preview (May 31, 2025) says the same: the passive buff on a swap adds strategy, and the pair of weapons you combine makes your style (iNews24).
In the beta, players met swapping in the first fight. SpookyFairy, playing a Berserker in the tutorial camp, notices: "Oh, it's two weapons. All right, I'm just changing weapon," and then that each side carries a different weapon. Wccftech compared the system to The Elder Scrolls Online, New World and Throne and Liberty, which also swap between two weapons in real time (Wccftech, May 23, 2025); after the beta some players accused the game of copying New World, weapon swapping included (TheGamer, Jun 23, 2025).
Fixes to swapping after the beta
Swapping felt slow in the beta, and Chrono Studio listed the problems itself in Developer's Notes #2 Part 2 (Jul 30, 2025): swaps "often felt delayed, occurring only after skill animations ended"; pressing the key several times queued inputs and equipped the wrong weapon; and it was hard to tell which weapon was in hand (Steam). The plan: shorter skill recovery so swaps can cut into animations, a buffer window for swaps of less than 1 second, a short cooldown on swaps to prevent double swaps, and clearer HUD and visual effects. Developer's Notes #4 (Jan 29, 2026) reported the visual effects done, "allowing players to track changes more easily during intense combat" (Steam). A combat tutorial covering weapon swapping is planned for the early game.
Weapon skills and skill trees in the beta
In the beta each weapon had its own skill tree, leveled by killing enemies with that weapon, and could equip up to four active abilities; weapon-agnostic class mastery abilities unlocked later. SpookyFairy opens a weapon's tree about twenty minutes into the beta ("Master weapon skill"). Noisy Pixel found that the second weapon felt like "more than sidearms" because it came with its own four skills and animations (Noisy Pixel, Jun 13, 2025).
The trees were small. Kanon told executive producer Yun Sang-tae on Jun 9, 2025 that choosing two weapons "naturally gives you double the options" but "the tree itself isn't exactly large"; Yun answered that Chrono Odyssey was designed to be "Easy to learn, hard to master", simple at first, with players later making "their own builds and metas."
Not every weapon could block in the beta: among the classes MassivelyOP played, only the sword and shield and the dual blades could, and blocking only lowered damage. Since January 2026, blocking spends stamina and a block that runs out breaks into a Guard Crush.
The Matrix: four paths per weapon
The beta's trees are being replaced by the Matrix System, announced on Jul 4, 2025 "to give each weapon a more distinct identity": four progression paths per weapon, twelve in total for a class's three weapons. "Even if two players are using the same weapon, their primary skills may differ," and skills from different weapons will link together, the developer wrote, so swapping and chaining reward each other (Steam, Jul 30, 2025). In January 2026 the executive producer said a weapon's skills can change entirely, for example to counter-focused or back-attack-focused, and described horizontal progression through weapon traits. Asked about slow weapons, he said the Matrix is meant to let every weapon, "not just those with slower attack speeds", make the most of its strengths (Icy Veins, Feb 12, 2026).
The beta's weapons were not balanced: Chrono Studio admitted "significant balance discrepancies between the three weapons available for each class" (Steam, Jul 30, 2025). No weapon's Matrix paths have been published, and no test has been held since the beta, as of Oct 21, 2026. Gear and skill presets are planned so players can switch builds quickly; see Gear and Enhancement.
Frequently asked questions
How many weapons are in Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey has three weapons per class and six classes, so 18 weapons; nine of them, the Swordsman's, Ranger's and Berserker's, were played in the June 2025 closed beta.
Can any class use any weapon in Chrono Odyssey? No. In Chrono Odyssey weapons stay locked to their class, Chrono Studio said in May 2026, while monster armor sets can be worn by every class.
How does weapon swapping work in Chrono Odyssey? In Chrono Odyssey you equip two of your class's three weapons and swap between them in combat; each swap grants a passive buff and each weapon keeps its own skill cooldowns, so switching lets you keep using skills.
How many weapons can you equip in Chrono Odyssey? Two at a time: a Chrono Odyssey character carries two of its class's three weapons and swaps between them at will.
How many skills does each weapon have in Chrono Odyssey? In the June 2025 closed beta each Chrono Odyssey weapon could equip up to four active skills from its own skill tree; the Matrix System now replaces those trees with four progression paths per weapon.
Is weapon swapping in Chrono Odyssey like New World? Chrono Odyssey swaps between two weapons in real time as New World, The Elder Scrolls Online and Throne and Liberty do, and some beta players accused it of copying New World; Chrono Studio's version adds a passive buff on each swap and per-weapon cooldowns.
