Chrono Gates
Chrono Gates are Chrono Odyssey's one-on-one boss fights against Void Apostles. The first, the Thousandfold Piercer, came at about level 3 in the June 2025 closed beta and is moving to about level 5, where players can bring an optional NPC Supporter (Chrono Studio, Jul 30, 2025 and May 7, 2026).
Chrono Gates are Chrono Odyssey's one-on-one boss fights: you enter alone and face a single Void Apostle, a boss of the Void, in a closed arena. The first is the Thousandfold Piercer, which players reached at about level 3 in the June 2025 closed beta and which Chrono Studio is moving to about level 5, with the option of fighting beside an NPC Supporter. In the official "Gameplay Walkthrough" of Jun 12, 2025, the narrator calls Chrono Gates "the core of Setera" and promises "punishing, fast-paced boss encounters" where "every strike, every dodge, demands sharp timing", while the footage shows a lone fighter under a "Chrono Gate" banner facing a boss in a red-lit hall. The game is unreleased and has no release date, as of Oct 21, 2026, so everything below is either from the Closed Beta or a plan.

What a Chrono Gate is
A Chrono Gate is also a place you can see from far off. In "Developer Interview #1" (May 23, 2025), executive producer Yun Sang-tae says that "structures like the Chrono Gates may appear manmade, but they're not", and that they are "designed to evoke a sense of intimidation, even from afar". Noisy Pixel, which played the beta, called them "HR Giger-esque mini-dungeons" (Jun 13, 2025).
The fight inside is a test of skill. Later in the same interview, Yun names Chrono Gates as the example of single-player content: "one-on-one battles against powerful Void Apostles", where "players must read enemy patterns and respond strategically". He adds: "The difficulty is high, but so is the sense of achievement and the value of the rewards." The Korean press calls the bosses 보이드 사도, Void Apostles (iNews24, May 31, 2025).
Chrono Gates sit with Trials on the solo side of the game. Asked by the streamer Kanon (Jun 9, 2025) whether the game leans solo or group, Yun answered that "for single-player users, content like 'Chrono Gate' and 'Trials' apply", while raids and Expedition Dungeons serve groups. Chrono Studio's own list of solo content, in its Jul 30, 2025 notes, is "Chrono Gates, Labyrinths, and Trials". The group side is on Dungeons and Raids.
The gates in the closed beta
In the June 2025 closed beta, the Chrono Gates marked out the early game. Chrono Odyssey has no fixed main questline, but Chrono Studio's own notes speak of players reaching "the first Chrono Gate (Thousandfold Piercer)" and losing their way "after the second Chrono Gate". Icy Veins' guide of Feb 10, 2026 lists four gates in the beta: the Thousandfold Piercer, then Earthbreaker, Primeval Capra and Arsenalith. Only the Thousandfold Piercer is named by the developer; the other three names and their order are as Icy Veins lists them, from a build that has been reworked since.
A gate you cannot beat is a signal to go and grow. Kanon, who had played a test before the closed beta, told Yun that the main story "simply had you go from one chrono gate, or boss fight, to another", and that "if you weren't good enough or strong enough to clear it, you go and level up at your own discretion. Which is very souls-like." Yun agreed that the game opens in a guided, theme park style and then turns into a sandbox.
Specters: what a defeated boss gives you
A beaten Void Apostle does not simply die. The Walkthrough's narrator says: "With the power of the Chronotector, you can capture their souls and summon them as Specters in battle. The stronger the foe, the greater the power you wield." The footage moves through several more gates: a glowing violet orb boss in a dark hall, then fights in red and dusty arenas. In the beta, the Chronotector's Summon ability called a defeated Chrono Gate boss to fight beside you as a "specter" (Noisy Pixel). Icy Veins adds that each beta gate boss unlocked a Chronotector ability, the Thousandfold Piercer giving Summon (Icy Veins, Feb 10, 2026); that order is a beta detail, not a confirmed design. Chrono Studio plans a Summon screen showing "specter types, backstories, abilities, and enhancement details" (Jul 30, 2025).
Too hard? What testers said
Many beta players found the gates and bosses too punishing. Chrono Studio's own summary of the beta, on Jul 30, 2025, lists "sharp difficulty spikes when entering certain content too early", no guidance on recommended levels, and unclear attack telegraphs that made it "difficult to time dodges or attacks". MassivelyOP's Tyler F.M. Edwards wrote that the first story boss "just felt numerically impossible to defeat" (Jun 12, 2025).
The fixes announced so far:
- The first Chrono Gate moves from about level 3 to about level 5, with "additional progression paths" before it.
- Players "will no longer be instantly defeated by bosses unless they're significantly underleveled."
- Bosses get clearer wind-ups, and patterns "with wide hitboxes or long tracking sequences will be adjusted".
- Solo content "will be redesigned with deeper, technical combat rather than fighting enemy mobs".
- A progression guide appears after the first gate, new guides after the second, and markers on travel paths point players to Chrono Gates.
- Chrono Gates get "new accomplishments and a variety of exclusive rewards" to make them worth replaying.
The Supporter System
From the first Chrono Gate on, players can bring a computer-controlled helper. Developer's Notes #5 (May 7, 2026) says: "Starting with the first Chrono Gate, players will have the option to challenge and clear combat encounters alongside an NPC Supporter." Chrono Studio calls it "an optional auxiliary feature designed to ensure smooth gameplay", built because players "occasionally faced sudden difficulty spikes or lacked clear guidance on how to move forward". In a Discord Q&A that month, the developers said Supporters are "not a permanent, micro-managed companion system" and that rewards may scale when one is used (Icy Veins, May 22, 2026).
Hitbox fixes for the Thousandfold Piercer
The first gate boss was one of two monsters whose hits were rebuilt after the beta. Developer's Notes #3 (Dec 25, 2025) says that for the Thousandfold Piercer, "attacks that previously registered as hits outside of their visual effects have been corrected", and attacks that used one hitbox now use several "that better follow the animation, making dodge timing clearer and more reliable". The other was the Optio Brute; both are on Bosses. How dodging and blocking changed is on Combat.

CombatChrono Odyssey uses action combat, not tab targeting: you aim your own attacks, dodge, block and parry on a stamina bar, lock on to targets, swap between two weapons mid-fight and use the time-bending Chronotector. Kakao Games says it "draws inspiration from the fluid action found in soulslike games," and the developers have reworked it since the June 2025 closed beta.
